Blockchain for Europe published an analysis of the developing Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation, examining the European Union’s emerging framework for crypto-assets and crypto-asset service providers. The publication followed months of negotiations over legislation intended to create a more harmonized regulatory environment across the EU.

MiCA represented a major step toward establishing common rules for crypto-assets that were not already covered by existing European financial-services legislation. The framework addressed areas including the offering and marketing of crypto-assets, stablecoin-related requirements, authorization of service providers, market-abuse prevention and the responsibilities of supervisory authorities.

For the European blockchain industry, the regulation was expected to have broad implications for companies operating across national borders. A harmonized framework could provide greater regulatory certainty while also introducing new compliance obligations for businesses working with digital assets and blockchain-based financial services.
